Some notes about Canadian Armed Forces Dakotas:

Officially, CAF Dakotas did not use any variant designators.  Unofficially, squadron records and log books sometimes referred to individual aircraft with the old RCAF style mark  numbers (3F, 3R, etc.).    These are tracked under the RCAF serial numbers in my database.

It appears that some CAF Dakotas were marked with a 5 digit number, based on the Douglas company number, shortly after unification.  For example, I have photographic evidence of one Dakota marked 12595.  Baugher reports several other examples, including 14995.  It also appears that the "last three" were marked on the nose.  I'm not sure if these were actual serial numbers, or some other type of marking.  If anybody out there can enlighten me, please do so!

Ex USAAF C-47A-10-DK serial number 42-92717.  In the RCAF, had served as a navigation trainer from 1944.  Stored at CFB Saskatoon in 1974.  To 429 (Composite) Squadron, CFB Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1975.  Later with 402 (Reserve) Squadron, and Central Flying School, both at CFB Winnipeg, as late as 1987.  Visited CFB North Bay, Ontario, in October 1979.  Named "the Gimili Goose".  Served in Canadian military for over 45 years when struck off.  Stored at AMDU, CFB Trenton by November 1990.  Sold, converted to Basler BT-67.  US registration N104BF.  Delivered to Mauretania, US registration cancelled there on 7 January 2000.
