  Added a detailed list for the last Canadian built Bolingbrokes, RCAF 9150 to 9201.  These low serial numbers were from an order canceled in 1942, but later re-instated, resulting in the last Bolingbrokes to be delivered from Fairchild Canada.  There were several uncompleted airframes scrapped at Fairchild after the war, and I would like to hear from anybody who knows what serial numbers may have been assigned to these (if any).

Updated information, and corrected registration typo, on Tiger Moth CF-BNF on one of my civil aircraft lists.  The error was pointed out by the current owner of the aircraft, which is under restoration in California.  Also updated the links to the photos, they should work for another few months.

  I've been collecting Sabre info for years now.  It is far from complete, but I needed a break from Ansons, so here is the detailed page for the first Canadair Sabres, RCAF 19101 to 19150.  Information from all the usual sources, plus Larry Milberry's superb book on The Canadair Sabre.  This book is still available from Canav Books, and you should buy it right now.

Added a detailed list of Canadian built Ansons, RCAF 11181 to 11249.  I've had enough of Ansons for awhile, might try something else next.

For those of you who send me corrections and additions, they are welcome, and they do get entered in my database.  For now, I'm spending time on new detailed lists, and will get around to updating existing pages sometime in the future.  I've bought a book on PHP, maybe this will allow more timely updates - once I figure it all out.

Taking a break from the Ansons, added a detailed list for RCAF 9000 to 9049.  This includes the first Bolingbroke Mk. IVs, with No. 8 (BR) Squadron.   Many of these aircraft were rushed to the west coast after Pearl Harbour, leaving a trail of Category A, B and C prangs from coast to coast.

Updated the CF serials numbers page to include the first - and still unconfirmed - information on the CH-148 Cyclone serials.  This is based on published reports of the three digit code carried by the first aircraft on its first flight this week (801), and assumes that this is the 'last three' of the full CF serial (148801).

I've finished rebuilding the database after my August hard drive crash, and I'm back to creating new pages.  Look for more Tigermoth and Anson pages in the next few weeks.

For some time now I've been receiving additional information on early RCAF multi-engine aircraft, including Bolingbrokes, Digbys and Hudsons.  Here is the first update to result from this, the detailed list for RCAF 701 to 750.

SPECIAL NOTE:  I see that the Canada Aviation Museum image bank is down for "remodeling", so all my links to their images are currently not working.  They promise to be back in the summer of 2008, with more images and new features.  I can hardly wait!  Let's see, I want pictures of a Curtis Canada, a camouflaged Auster, an RCAF yellow Hiller, a Red Knight Tutor, a target tug Hudson, a target tug Dakota, a target tug Mitchell, ......

The next list of BCATP aircraft, including some Mk. II Mitchells, FW279 to FZ692.  The Mitchell serial numbers are spread around, so this is going to take a while.

CORRECTION:  In previous pages I had interpreted the abbreviation REMS as Reserve Equipment Maintenance Station.  In my digging through the Public Archives microfilms I have recently discovered the order that created these units on 16 June 1945, and the correct name is Reserve Equipment Maintenance Satellite.  These were remote detachments from the main Reserve Equipment Maintenance Units (REMU).  Existing web pages will be corrected by and by.

  My recent pages on the postwar Mitchell Mk. 3s have generated a lot of e-mail from readers.  Several were asking about the Mk. 2s, which were first with the BCATP and then lingered on with the Auxiliary Squadrons until the late 1950s.  Here is the first detailed list with Mk. 2s, FV695 to FW278.  There are several more to come.

I'm slowly going crazy working through the BCATP aircraft, so I'm taking a break by updating some of my old pages, starting with the Canadian Forces Canucks detailed page.  Note that with all the re-numbered CF aircraft I only list those that were confirmed as re-marked (or highly probable).  Other sources will list more serials, but I need proof of actual re-marking before the number will appear in my lists.

Added a detailed list for pre-Integration Hillers, 10261 to 10287.  The information came from Griffin's new book, Rankin-Lowe and Cline's book, files provided by Tony Wilson in Australia, and my father's log books.

The research into the new page also allowed a major update to the Canadian Forces Hiller page.  Also updated the Project web page, with some information about data sources, and completeness of my comments, plus a few new terms and abbreviations.  For a very thorough list of RAF/RCAF abbreviations, the reader is directed to Jason Gaudet's abbreviation list.

Also, it appears that there is some disagreement about the true identity of the RCN Tiger Moth coded "TF*A", which I reported as ex-RCAF 5014.  I'm still looking into this, but for now consider my comments about 5014's naval history as "possible, not confirmed".

Eagle-eyed readers at CV-Canso@yahoogroups.com, including Jeff Rankin-Lowe, spotted a typo in my brief list of RCAF 5000 to 9999 concerning Expeditor / Beech 18 serial 8650, and the following batch of Cessna Cranes.  This has been corrected.  Also took advantage of reworking this page to clean up the San Diego built Cansos, 9701 to 9750.

  Added a detailed list for the CH-147 Chinook.  There is very little published information on these helicopters while they were in Canada, so the page has more of their Dutch history than of their Canadian history.

More new UAV data on the post integration page, including my first mention of the CU-168.  It appears that the CT-102 is the Grob 120A trainer, but I may be wrong.

Some time ago the sharp-eyed  readers at RAF Commands Forum noted that some of my Tiger Moth data appeared to be out of whack.  After much digging, I have determined that I somehow shifted the data for Tigerschmidts 4383 to 4404 by one aircraft, when entering data from Griffin into my database.  The marvels of modern computing, I guess.  Anyway, using extra data supplied by Patrick Martin and others, I have finally straightened the mess out.  Here are revised detailed lists for RCAF 4350 to 4399 and RCAF 4400 to 4449.

  Posted the first of the Air Cadet gliders, the CF and C-F aircraft.

I have received an interesting e-mail from a reader, who claims there are one or more individuals who collected large numbers of serial plates from Canadian built Hurricanes when they were scrapped at the end of the war.  These name plates are now being sold, one by one, and this may account for several recent Canadian built Hurricane "restorations" we have seen.  This sort of thing is fairly common in the Warbirds movement, and is quite legal (although a little confusing to the serious historian).  See my comments about "restored" Mustangs.

The main page for civil registered government owned aircraft has been updated to place the Air Cadet glider program in perspective.  Also, the RCN main page has been updated with a link to Patrick Martin's new book, probably the ultimate resource on RCN aircraft.

More detailed information on Canadian built Hurricanes 5400 to 5449 added.

I have two conflicting sources of company numbers of these Canada Car built aircraft:  British Air Commission records, provided by Mike Taylor, and the civil register entries for the few aircraft that survived and were registered after the war.  I would love to hear from anyone who can clear this up.

I have added lots of information to the Canadian Army L-19 page and the Canadian Forces L-19 page.  Most of this came via Patrick Martin.  Let's see now, Patrick has already written two excellent books on RCAF and CF aircraft, and is finishing up an even better book on RCN aircraft.  I wonder why he is suddenly interested in Canadian Army aircraft?

The information on the subsequent Air Cadet careers of several of these aircraft will soon appear on an Air Cadets page.  About 60 aircraft identified so far: L-19s, Bellancas, and gliders.  There may be more to come.

As often happens, I've received new information on one aircraft immediately after publishing a web page.  Thanks to Mike Taylor for bringing to my attention that RAF records show a very different  history for RCAF 1357, a.k.a. RAF AG316 than my information, which comes from the RCAF Aircraft History Card for 1357 and Griffin's first book.  See the updated RCAF 1350 to 1399 detailed list.  I can only assume that this is an error in RCAF and/or RAF records, and that two different aircraft are involved.  As always, if anyone has additional information, I would love to hear it.

Added the last of the RCAF Cansos, RCAF 11051 to 11100.  I've been working on RCN information for Patrick Martin's new book, so other projects have slowed considerably.  This book will contain far more information than my RCN pages, and I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in RCN aircraft.

I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak at parts of Patrick Martin's upcoming book on RCN aircraft this week.  It looks great, and will make most of my material look pretty lame.  I strongly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in the RCN, especially modellers.  Look for major upgrades of my RCN pages after this book is out.

Updated the list of civil register aircraft operated by the Canadian military, but owned by others, and added photos of the CCF Maple Leaf and the Doman-Fleet helicopter.  Much of the new information came from the CAHS published early Canadian civil registers.  There are still many more of these to come, I think.

Added the next batch of Cansos, all Boeing Canada built, RCAF 9751 to 9800.  Information on the Brazilian post war history of some of these aircraft came in a series of e-mails from Romulo Figueiredo in Rio de Janeiro.

Added a detailed list for the first batch of Catalinas / Cansos built  to RCAF order, RCAF 9701 to 9750.  Information from my usual sources, plus e-mails from Maarten Hartkamp, and several postings on the RAF Commands forum.  Information on the aircraft diverted to Australia came from the ADF serials web site, and their information on the Netherlands East Indies and early Indonesian aircaft by Jos Heyman.  If you liked Terry and the Pirates, you'll love the story of the Indonesian rebel air force.  Click on "NEI Aircraft" at  the ADF serials home page.

As promised, detailed lists of RFC in Canada aircraft have been added, in part 1, part 2, part 3, and part 4.  The information on Canadian registered ex RFC/RAF aircraft has mostly come from the CAHS published early Canadian civil registers.  I am surprised at the lack of information on the many Canucks that apparently flooded the US market in 1919 and 1920.  Can anyone point me towards details of these aircraft?

I'm constantly receiving corrections and additions to published pages, and I really appreciate this.  I've been focusing on completing the missing pages for now, and need to go back and update the existing ones some day.

Two more detailed list of RCAF Finches added, 4500 to 4549 and 4550 to 4599.  Also added a detailed list for RCAF Hercules and CH-113s.

Updated the detailed list of Canadian Forces CH-113s.  I have now identified 15 of these that received new serial numbers.   Most of the search and rescue anecdotes in both CH-113 lists come from the excellent book "That Others May Live", by The Para Rescue Association of Canada.  This is a highly entertaining and informative book, and I strongly recommend it to anyone with an interest in Canadian military aviation.

Two more detailed lists added, of Tiger Moths and Finches: RCAF 4400 to 4449, and RCAF 4450 to 4499.

A note on the Finches:  many of these aircraft went to civil registers after the war, in Canada, the US, Mexico, and Iceland.  Unfortunately, I can't always match subsequent civil identities to the RCAF serial number.  Some of the information I can come up with appears to be contradictory, as you can see.  If anyone can share a complete list of Fleet company numbers matched to RCAF serial numbers, it would help immensely.

Updated the list of USAF serials owned or controlled by Canada, adding the YF-18 used as a structural test article, and the BOMARCs listed in Rankin-Lowe and Cline's book.  If anyone has serials for BOMARC from 447 Squadron, please let me know.

I missed some subsequent civil histories in my last Tiger Moth list, RCAF 3850 to 3899, they have been added.

I've received some fascinating photos of the RFC in Canada, taken by Tom Granger's grandfather when he was a mechanic at the repair depot in 1918.  I'll be sharing them with you as soon as I figure out the best way.

  Added a detailed list for the Canadian Forces Argus.  Much of the information from Griffin's latest book, and my personal notes.  Also added detailed list for RCAF 3800 to 3849, with data from all the usual sources.

Updated the lists for RAF owned aircraft, up to Z9999.  Most of this comes from Tony Wilson's extensive research of RAF war time records.  He's sent me bags more data, but I can only process this so fast.  Stay tuned for lots more WW2 information.

  Added a detailed list for the Canadian Forces Yukon.  If you have fond memories of the beauty and grace of the Yukon, like I do, you may find their eventual fates a little sad.  Also added a detailed page for the CH-143.  This is the one type in my lists where I can honestly say I have flown in every one of the entire fleet.

Created a detailed list for Canadian Forces CF-104Ds.  Much of the information came from Griffin's new book.  Information on subsequent histories of these aircraft came from a number of web sites, that can all be found at The Mother of All F-104 Sites.

  Updated the RCAF Chipmunks detailed list, with information on aircraft used at No. 3 FTS at Claresholm.  Information came from an ex No. 3 FTS instructor, F/L Hugh Beaton, CD.

Corrected the brief list of RCN serials, and the RCN main page.  Added Some Firelfy Mk. V serials I had missed, and updated Firefly squadron marking information.  This information came from Leo Pettipas' book on the Firelfy in RCN service.

Added a detailed list for the CH-118 Iroquois.  Much of the information comes from "Canadian Military Aircraft, Aircraft of the Canadian Armed Forces", by Griffin, Smith, and Castle.  By the way, don't bother to order this book from Chapters.  After a 4 month wait I canceled my order there, upon discovering that the good people at Aviation World literally had a stack of them.

  Updated all the Chipmunk detailed lists, with information from Griffin's new book, plus e-mails from several sources.  There are still a few gaps here, so any information you can share will be appreciated.

Additional information on Chipmunks is trickling in, and I will probably update these pages next week.

Tony Wilson has also sent me a lot more information on RAFowned aircraft operated by the RCAF in WW2, nearly doubling the number of aircraft identified.  Look for updates of these pages in the coming weeks.

Added detailed list for the RCAF Chipmunks.

Updated the last Air Board detailed page, C-GYXA to C-GYZZ.  Also, minor updates to the other two Chipmunk detailed pages, Canadian Forces Chipmunks and civil registered, DND owned, Chipmunks.

The Chipmunk lists are far from complete, and I would like to fill in the blanks before the 60th anniversary of the first Chipmunk flight, coming up this May.  Please search your old log books, or your relative's log books, for any information on Canadian Military Chipmunks.  I would like to know serial numbers, unit or base, and dates, please.

I'm experimenting with adding links to pictures to some of my pages, when I can find public domain pictures on the net (I don't have the space to put many pictures on my own server).  If anybody is willing to let me link to their photos, especially of early aircraft, please let me know.

Major expansion of the RCAF operated, RAF owned page.  I now have 3,500+ aircraft in this category, but I'm always looking for more.  I also have a lot more information on these aircraft (first and last dates, RAF history, etc.) that will eventually  show up in the detailed lists.  So many aircraft, so little time....

Also was able to add information on the CU-167 to the CAF page, thanks to a series of e-mails from Stephen Priestley.  Stephen is now our Designated UAV Expert.

  Added more information on the RCN reserve squadrons to the RCN main page.  The keen eyed observer will note that the roundels shown on the top of this page are RCAF style, with silver maple leafs, and not the correct sugar maple leaf as actually used by the RCN.  Sorry, that's all I've got.  The artwork came from www.rcaf.com, so what can you expect?

Special note to Netscape 8 users:  for some reason, my copy of Netscape 8 will occasionally not display the graphics on these pages.  When this happens, I can get the pictures back by going to the "Tools" pulldown, then "Options...", and toggling the rendering engine mode between Firefox or IE.  It doesn't matter what this mode is set to, you just have to change it.  Anybody got any suggestions?

I have extended my list of CAF T-Birds: it now includes a part one, part two, and part three.  Most of the new information came from "Aircraft of the Canadian Armed Forces", by Rankin-Lowe and Cline, and in e-mails from Patrick Martin, Barrie MacLeod, Robert Thomson, and others.

Also updated detail list for RCAF 551 to 600, with information from Tony Wilson and from Joe Bruagher's web pages.

Added new numbers to RAF owned aircraft up to Z9999, increasing from 130 aircraft to over 400.  I think I have now listed all the aircraft in this range currently available to me.  Now on to AA100 and up, where I expect to identify over 2,000 aircraft (compared to the 400 or so currently posted) from the sources I have identified.  I have no way of knowing how complete either list really is.

Updated detailed lists for RCAF 351 to 400, 401 to 450, and 451 to 500.  There is some confiusion in the various sources about previous and subsequent serials for some of the RCAF Gooses (Geese?)  For now, I will list all available information, until I can clear this up.

I've added place markers on the main page for pages on civil registered aircraft, both Canadian owned and others, operated by Canadian military units.  I've found bits and pieces of information on these topics recently, and will be adding them to the database.

  Updated detail lists for G-CYGA to G-CYTZ, and for G-CYUA to G-CYWZ.  Information came from a number of sources, including de Havilland production histories provided by  Mark Huxtable.  Also updated the detail list for RCAF 1500 to 1549, with information on Lysander 1540, found on the cenotaph in Fingal, Ontario.
