I have received information from a US reader that seems to show that the match ups between RCAF serials and USAF serials for the Canadair built Sabres provided to the USAF during the Korean War are quite different than most published sources (and my current web pages). I'm looking into this, stay tuned.

Starting the New Year by updating the detailed list for Canadian Forces Dakotas. The original page was very skimpy, and contained a few errors. Information from many sources, including reader e-mails. Information on subsequent histories of these aircraft is scattered, confusing, and sometimes contradictory. I have relied on official government registers whenever I can. As always, I look forward to my readers' corrections and additions.

For now, I'm spending time on new detailed lists, and will get around to updating existing pages sometime in the future. I've bought a book on PHP, maybe this will allow more timely updates - once I figure it all out.

Added the next detailed list for RAF
serialized aircraft in the RCAF, N1078 to N5041, mostly
Ansons, plus a few oddballs. Continued
to update detailed lists of early RCAF aircraft, with a revised detailed list for RCAF 751 to
800. Also, added new information on early Canadian
military aviation to the Beginnings page.
Added three detailed lists for all the CF-18s:
Single seaters part 1 and part 2, and dual seaters.
Information came from the usual published sources (like Griffin's
second serial book, and Rankin-Lowe and Cline), plus several on-line
spotter sites, government press releases and documents, and several
e-mails from readers. Added the next detailed list with RCAF
Mitchells, RCAF KH945 to KN392.
Only a handful of Mitchells left now. Added the next detailed list of Tiger Moths, RCAF 5800 to 5849. Now, back to
the Mitchell pages. Added a detailed list of RCAF aircraft with
RAF serials, FK177 to FL999, that
includes part of a very obscure batch of Mitchell Mk. Is, that "sort
of" served with the RCAF. Added another detailed list of Cornells, RCAF 10600 to 10649.
For some time now I've been receiving additional information on early
RCAF multi-engine aircraft, including Bolingbrokes, Digbys and
Hudsons. Here is the first update to result from this, the detailed list for RCAF 701 to 750.
I'm waiting for some extra information to arrive in the mail before
continuing preparing pages for the rest of the Mitchells. In the
mean time, I'm going back to fill in some gaps, starting with a
detailed list for RCAF 5300 to 5349,
Caribous and Comets. Added the next detailed list with RCAF
Mitchell Mk. IIs, HB207 to
HH560. The next list of BCATP aircraft, including
some Mk. II Mitchells, FW279
to FZ692. The Mitchell serial numbers are spread around, so
this is going to take a while.
My recent pages on the postwar Mitchell Mk. 3s have generated a lot of
e-mail from readers. Several were asking about the Mk. 2s, which
were first with the BCATP and then lingered on with the Auxiliary
Squadrons until the late 1950s. Here is the first detailed list
with Mk. 2s, FV695 to FW278.
There are several more to come.
I've been saving extra information on current aircraft for some time
now, most of it has come from readers. First, a detailed list for the CT-156 Harvard II. Also,
updates on the detailed lists for the CC-177
Globemaster and the CU-161 Sperwer.
As before, much of the the Sperwer information is tentative. Added the detailed list for the next
batch of Cornells, RCAF 10550
to 10599. Added detail list for RCAF 10497 to 10549, more
BCATP trainers. Added more post war Mitchell Mk. 3s, RCAF 5250 and up.
The Canadian Forces web page has changed the addresses of several of
the pictures referenced by my pages. I'm changing the links, and
updating the pages, as I find them. First revision is the L-19/L-182 page,
serials 16701 to 16735. Much of the new information on the
L-182s came from Larry Maloney, (WO Retired) R.C.A.S.C. Added a detailed list for post war Mitchell
Mk.3s, RCAF 5200 to 5249.
An eagle-eyed reader has pointed out that the very interesting accident
I had reported for Air Cadet glider C-FBUJ actually happened to
C-FZIQ. The Air Cadet CF gliders
page has been updated accordingly. Returned to slogging through the thousands of
BCATP trainers. Added detail list for more Tiger Moths, RCAF 5150 to 5199. I just
noticed that some data was lost when I transferred RAF owned AG100 to BJ999 to html
format, so I have corrected it.
I'm slowly going crazy working through the BCATP aircraft, so I'm
taking a break by updating some of my old pages, starting with the Canadian Forces Canucks detailed page.
Note that with all the re-numbered CF aircraft I only list those that
were confirmed as re-marked (or highly probable). Other sources
will list more serials, but I need proof of actual re-marking before
the number will appear in my lists. Added the next detailed list of RAF style
serials, L5332 to N1045,
with Battles, Ansons, Beauforts and one Hampden. Added a detailed list for the C-5 and RCAF Yukons, serials 10000 and
up. The Yukon serials are still a little confusing to me, as
the note on this page indicates. Started the New Year with the next detailed
list of Tiger Moths, RCAF 5100
to 5149. Another detailed list of early RCAF Ansons, RCAF N5042 to N5352.
Work on the lists has slowed lately, as I prepare for an upcoming
multi-week contract in Hawaii. I know, I know.... It would
be better to stay here, shoveling the driveway three times a day and
working on the web pages, but duty calls. Added a detailed list for the Airbus CC-150 Polaris. Can anybody
confirm if the MRTT aircraft have actually been used as tankers yet? Added another detailed list of postwar
Expeditors, RCAF
postwar 2344 to 2382. Added a detailed list for pre-Integration
Hillers, 10261 to 10287.
The information came from Griffin's new book, Rankin-Lowe and Cline's
book, files provided by Tony Wilson in Australia, and my father's log
books. The
research into the new page also allowed a major update to the Canadian Forces Hiller page.
Also updated the Project web page,
with some information about data sources, and completeness of my
comments, plus a few new terms and abbreviations. For a very
thorough list of RAF/RCAF abbreviations, the reader is directed to Jason
Gaudet's abbreviation list. Added a detailed list for RCAF 10200 to 10257, the

with the Canadian Forces has been updated, to reflect the changes
from Bombardier to Kelowna Flightcraft (aka Allied Wings). Added another detailed list of Harvards,
AJ686 to AJ790. Eagle-eyed
readers at CV-Canso@yahoogroups.com, including Jeff Rankin-Lowe,
spotted a typo in my brief list
of RCAF 5000 to 9999 concerning Expeditor / Beech 18 serial 8650,
and the following batch of Cessna Cranes. This has been
corrected. Also took advantage of reworking this page to clean up
the San Diego built Cansos, 9701 to 9750. Added a detailed list for the CH-147 Chinook. There is very little
published information on these helicopters while they were in Canada,
so the page has more of their Dutch history than of their Canadian
history. More new
UAV data on the post integration page,
including my first mention of the CU-168. It appears that the
CT-102 is the Grob 120A trainer, but I may be wrong. Added the next batch of post war Expeditors, RCAF 2305 to 2343. Thanks to
Steve Priestly at CASR for providing information on some new (possibly
unofficial) CF Type designators, added to the
Post Integration page. If anybody knows for sure what a
CT-102 Astra is, please let me know! Also, updated my database statistics. Added a detailed list for the RCAF North Stars. Much of the
detailed information came from Larry Milberry's great book "The
Canadair North Star". Added detailed list for the next 50
Bolingbrokes, RCAF 10150 to
10199. Thanks to
Patrick Martin, for providing a photo of the serial plate on the first
CC-177, clearly identifying the manufacturer's number.
Updated the CC-177 detailed list. Some time
ago the sharp-eyed readers at RAF Commands Forum noted that some
of my Tiger Moth data appeared to be out of whack. After much
digging, I have determined that I somehow shifted the data for
Tigerschmidts 4383 to 4404 by one aircraft, when entering data from
Griffin into my database. The marvels of modern computing, I
guess. Anyway, using extra data supplied by Patrick Martin and
others, I have finally straightened the mess out. Here are
revised detailed lists for RCAF
4350 to 4399 and RCAF 4400
to 4449. Added detailed list
for the CC-177s. If anyone knows the manufacturer's numbers
for these aircraft, or if they previously had a USAF serial assigned,
please let me know. Added the last detailed list for Canadian
built Hurricanes, RCAF 5700 to
5775. The note about RAF and RCAF Mark numbers on this page
applies to most of the other Mk. XII Hurricanes on my pages. Added the next Harvard detailed list, RCAF AJ571 to AJ685. Added detailed list for RCAF K8751 to L5331, with Ansons,

Let's see now, Patrick has already
written two excellent books on RCAF and CF aircraft, and is finishing
up an even better book on RCN aircraft. I wonder why he is
suddenly interested in Canadian Army aircraft? Added a detailed list for some post war
Dakotas, RCAF 10910 to 10918. As often
happens, I've received new information on one aircraft immediately
after publishing a web page. Thanks to Mike Taylor for bringing
to my attention that RAF records show a very different history
for RCAF 1357, a.k.a. RAF AG316 than my information, which comes from
the
RCAF Aircraft History Card for 1357 and Griffin's first book. See
the updated RCAF 1350 to 1399
detailed list. I can only assume that this is an error in RCAF
and/or RAF records, and that two different aircraft are involved.
As always, if anyone has additional information, I would love to hear
it. Updated my
list of civil registered aircraft in the G-CAxx

received a major update on the early days of the Canadian flying clubs,
based on information received from Terry Judge.
Updated RCAF 1350 to 1399,
with new Hurricane information and some extra Expeditor

to enter the Hurricane data received from a number of sources, and
updated RCAF 301 to 350, with

I have recently received a large amount of Canadian Hurricane data,
from Tony Hancock, Mike Taylor, and others. I will be
updating my exisiting Hurricane entries soon. Now, back to
Patrick Martin's great new book. Added the last of the RCAF Cansos, RCAF 11051 to 11100.
I've been working on RCN information for Patrick Martin's new book, so
other projects have slowed considerably. This book will contain
far more information than my RCN pages, and I highly recommend it to
anyone with an interest in RCN aircraft. Added the next batch of Cansos, RCAF 11001 to 11050. Added detailed
list for the CP-140 Aurora and Arcturus. Updated the
list of civil register aircraft operated by
the Canadian military, but owned by others, and added photos of the
CCF Maple Leaf and the Doman-Fleet helicopter. Much of the new
information came from the CAHS
published early Canadian civil registers. There are still many
more of these to come, I think. The next batch of RCAF Cansos, RCAF 9801 to 9844, including
a few post war Mk. 2s. Corrected entry for Kittyhawk 1049,
thanks to the eagle-eyed readers at the RAF Commands forums. Keeping to a flying boat theme, added detailed page for RCAF Albatrosses
(Albatrii?). Since they retained their RCAF serials after
unification, there is a link to this page from both the RCAF 4 digit page, and the Canadian Forces page. Added the next batch of Cansos, all Boeing
Canada built, RCAF 9751 to 9800.
Information on the Brazilian post war history of some of these aircraft
came in a series of e-mails from Romulo Figueiredo in Rio de Janeiro. Added a detailed
list for the Auster Mk. VI and T. Mk. VII. Also added a list of terms and abbreviations., including
definitions of RCAF / CF damage catagories. Added a detailed list for the first batch of
Catalinas / Cansos built to RCAF order, RCAF 9701 to 9750.
Information from my usual sources, plus e-mails from Maarten Hartkamp,
and several postings on the RAF
Commands forum. Information on the aircraft diverted to
Australia came from the ADF
serials web site, and their information on the Netherlands East
Indies and early Indonesian aircaft by Jos Heyman. If you liked
Terry and the Pirates, you'll love the story of the Indonesian rebel

detailed lists of RFC in Canada aircraft have been added, in part 1, part 2, part 3, and part 4. The information on
Canadian registered ex RFC/RAF aircraft has mostly come from the CAHS
published early Canadian civil registers. I am surprised at the
lack of information on the many Canucks that apparently flooded the US
market in 1919 and 1920. Can anyone point me towards details of
these aircraft? Some
revisions to the RFC in
Canada information. I'm in the process of adding more details
for individual RFC in Canada aircraft, and this should be ready in a
few days.

The subsequent civil identities of these aircraft can be somewhat
convoluted and murky, so completing the other Mustangs will take some
time. Please read the disclaimer on this page about these civil
histories. Updated the detailed list of CF Falcons, with
information on the fate of 117508 provided in an e-mail from Ernie Szelepcsenyi, and a new photo of
117507.

I have now identified 15 of these that received new serial
numbers. Most of the search and rescue anecdotes in both
CH-113 lists come from the excellent book "That Others May Live", by
The Para Rescue Association of Canada. This is a highly
entertaining and informative book, and I
strongly recommend it to anyone with an interest in Canadian military
aviation.

If you have fond memories of the beauty and grace of the Yukon, like I

Most of the additions concern the subsequent fate of these aircraft on
the civil register, and come from the Canadian civil register books
by John A. Ellis, and numerous web sources.
Some more detailed lists for Yales, RCAF 3350 to 3399, and RCAF 3400 to 3449. Also,
a somewhat preliminary detailed list
for the Sperwer. I know, some people think they're not "real"
airplanes, but they have serial numbers! Updated detailed list for RCAF 801 to 900,
with information from Tony Wilson, the book "Photographing Canada", and

Created a detailed list for Canadian Forces
CF-104Ds.
Much of the information came from Griffin's new book. Information
on subsequent histories of these aircraft came from a number of web
sites, that can all be found at The Mother of All
F-104 Sites. Updated the RCAF Chipmunks detailed list,
with information on aircraft used at No. 3 FTS at Claresholm.

Another detailed list for RCAF
Harvards, 3200 to 3249. They go on for ever,
and this is just the Mk. IIs! Corrected the brief list of RCN serials, and the RCN main page.
Added Some Firelfy Mk. V serials I had missed, and updated Firefly
squadron marking information. This information came from Leo
Pettipas' book on the Firelfy in RCN service.
Added a detailed list for the CH-118
Iroquois.
Much of the information comes from "Canadian Military Aircraft,
Aircraft of the Canadian Armed Forces", by Griffin, Smith, and
Castle. By
the way, don't bother to order this book from Chapters. After a 4
month wait I canceled my order there, upon discovering that the good
people at Aviation World
literally had a stack of them.
Updated all the Chipmunk detailed lists, with information from
Griffin's new book, plus e-mails from several sources. There are
still a few gaps here, so any information you can share will be
appreciated. Updated detailed lists for RCAF 701 to 750, and 751 to 800, with information from
Tony Wilson. Also updated database statistics.

the way, Griffin has a new book due out next month, the first in nearly
30 years! I can hardly wait. I have extended my list of CAF
T-Birds: it now includes a part one,
part two, and part three.

with information from Tony Wilson. I think I've figured out why
some of my tables on the main pages are ragged in Explorer, and I'm
fixing them as time permits. Updated the
project statisitcs page. Added new numbers to RAF owned aircraft up to Z9999,
increasing from 130 aircraft to over 400. I think I have now
listed all the aircraft in this range currently available to me.
Now on to AA100 and up, where I expect to identify over 2,000 aircraft
(compared to the 400 or so currently posted) from the sources I have
identified. I have no way of knowing how complete either list
really is.

There is some confiusion in the various sources about previous and
subsequent serials for some of the RCAF Gooses (Geese?) For now,
I will list all available information, until I can clear this up.

Basic aircraft data came from the book "The Aircraft of the Canadian
Armed Forces" by Rankin-Lowe and Cline. Information on the
subsequent civil identities of the Chipmunks came from Tony Wilson, and
from a 1976 hard copy of the Canadian civil registry.
I've added place markers on the main page for pages on civil registered
aircraft, both
Canadian owned and others, operated by Canadian military units.
