Instruction Sheet For External 3COM Modem

Your OdyNet High-Speed starter kit should contain the following:

1 External ADSL Modem
1 Power Cord
1 Ethernet Cable
1 Telephone Cable
1 Telephone Line Filter
1 OdyNet Installation CD-ROM

Connecting the external ADSL modem:

1. Shut down your computer.
2. Find a reasonably well ventilated space for your modem, with a phone jack nearby.
3. Connect one end of the telephone cord to your ADSL modem, into the port marked 'ADSL'.
4. Connect the other end of the telephone cord into the phone jack.
5. Connect one end of the ethernet cable to your ADSL modem, into the port marked 'LAN'.
6. Connect the other end of the ethernet cable to your computer, into the NIC (Network Interface Card).
7. All telephone jacks that have a telephone or other device connected to them should have a line filter attached.
To attach a line filter, unplug the telephone from the wall, and plug it into a line filter. Then, plug the
other end of the line filter into the wall. Do not connect your ADSL modem through a line filter.
8. Connect the power cord to your DSL modem, and plug it into an electrical outlet. You should see the
PWR light turn on immediately. After about a minute, the ADSL light on the front of the modem should light.
You are now ready to switch on your computer and configure it for use with OdyNet DSL.
