Date Event
Monday, November 01 2010 Odynet is the first to offer download speeds of up to 10 or 20meg/sec (step 1: Downtown London)
Odynet is pleased to announce a significant jump in speeds made available to our downtown London area customers. Download speeds of up to 10 or 20 meg are now available. Upload speeds will jump from the standard 800k to up to 1.2meg. There will also be an option to increase your upload speed to up to 2.5meg. (Great for large uploads, or remote access to your systems from other locations) If your location is within about 2km of Victoria Park, you are probably capable of getting these new speeds. This project started in very early 2010, and has taken considerable resources to pull off. This new system will completely bypass any of the Bell equip to provide DSL service to our customers in this area. This also means no pesky throttling of certain types of traffic during certain times of the day. (think P2P and file sharing in general)
It is our intent to continue to expand this service to other areas as soon as we can, so stay tuned. We are working in the background to bring bigger better and faster services to everybody.
Check out our Business and Residential DSL pages for pricing and options.
Thursday, September 30 2010 Network Outage
Odynet experienced another network outage due to a hardware problem at our upstream network provider in Toronto. The problem was located in Toronto but this affected several ISPs in Ontario. We are sincerely sorry for this outage. In the 16+ years of providing Internet access to a very large number of businesses and individual customers we have never experienced an outage like this. Rest assured that we will take steps to remove this supplier and peer with someone that is much more stable and able to react to any outage in a much quicker time frame.
Wednesday, September 15 2010 Upstream Backbone router issue
Brief outage at 11:50am. A connection upstream from Odynet had a problem with one of their core routers. It has been rebooted and traffic looks normal again.
Friday, March 26 2010 Service outage
Bell ckt problem between London and Toronto. We are being told the problem has been effecting several ISP's in Ontario. The problem seems to have been resolved now, but we are still waiting for an official word from bell as to what the problem really was.
Monday, December 14 2009 System Outage
Due to a Bell fiber problem this morning, our primary backbone Internet connection to 151 Front St in Toronto was down from 9:00am till approx 10:10am. Customers would have been able to connect to our network, receive any existing email etc, but surfing out beyond our network would have been down. We hear the issue caused problems for several ISP's in Ontario, but don't quite know the details of what the problem was at Bells end yet.
Sunday, June 07 2009 Internet Backbone connection outage
Sat June 6 at approx 11pm a Bell Pasport router in Toronto experienced problems. This router effected a very large number of customers, Odynet being just one of them. We use that router to connect all our customers out to the internet.
We were lucky in that we were eventually able to route our data through a backup connection to allow our customers to do most basic internet activities by about 1am.
Bell finally corrected their issue with the Pasport router by about 3am.

Tuesday, March 10 2009 Network Outage
There was a network outage Monday evening between about 8:45pm and 9:45pm. The problem seems to have been a piece of Bell equipment in the Bell central office here in London. A Bell tech rebooted that hardware and service was restored. We have seen 2 other very short interruptions with this same piece of hardware over the last couple months and have requested that Bell schedule installing a replacement. They will schedule a time in the middle of the night to minimize the customers effected.
Thursday, March 27 2008 Web Server Outage
Issues with our web server, that started the evening of March 26, have now been resolved.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Saturday, May 26 2007 Toronto DSL Outage
DSL cusotmers connecting through our Toronto routers will have had problems connecting through the night. We are investigating the cause of the problem. We have routed all Toronto traffic to another router while we look into the reason for the outage.
Once we resolve the issue, Toronto customers will see a brief disconnect/reconnect as we swing those customers back to the Toronto router.
Monday, November 20 2006 London DSL Slowness
Some London customers are experiencing slowness with their dsl connections to Odynet. The problem seems to be a connection issue between two pieces of equip at bell. We are working on the problem with bell to get the problem resolved.
Monday evening update (9:30pm)
Bell has identified the congestion and will work on re-routing our traffic asap. We suspect this will not get completed untill sometime in the morning.
Tues Update (3:00pm)
Bell had finally moved Odynet traffic off to a less congested switch. Speed for London customers seems to be back to where it should be. We will continue to monitor. If you see any slowness, please contact our help desk. Thanks.
Sunday, July 30 2006 Toronto DSL outage
There was a problem with the DSL router that services customers in and around the Toronto area at about 12:30 Sunday afternoon. We have migrated that traffic to another DSL router while we investigate the cause of the problem.
  Thursday, June 1 2006 Dialup - 10 digit dialing
Reminder that as of June 17,2006, 10 digit dialing will come into effect for the 519 area code. Dial-up users will need to modify their dial-up connection setup to 519-488-4321.
Thursday, January 19 2006 DSL Speed Issues for some London customers
Some DSL customers in the London area will be experiencing a slowness accessing the internet during peek times. This problem is being caused by a saturated network connection in the London Bell office. We are working with bell to resolve this issue asap. This issue is not limited to just Odynet, but any other ISP that happens to use this same connection will also see the same slowness.
Update Jan 20
Bell has moved our connections to the London TunnelSwitch Devices (aka DSLAM's) to a couple of less congested OC3 connections. This seems to have brought ping times right back down to what they should be. We will continue to monitor over the next couple days to make sure there are no further issues.
Monday, August 22 2005 DSL Speed Increases
Odynet will be increasing our 4 meg services over the next couple weeks. Residential customers that currently have 4 meg service will be configured to get up to 5 Meg, and Business 4 meg customers will be configured to get up to 6 Meg. (Upload rates are still set at the max 800k that is available for this technology). Enjoy the increase !!!
Saturday, August 20 2005 users@ody.ca having problems surfing
An internal routing issue that started at 12 noon, caused a problem with dsl users that login with a username@ody.ca having problems connecting to networks outside our network. The problem looks like it was a faulty port on a cisco router. Some quick re-routing on some internal routers corrected the problem at around 12:45pm. We are still looking into the original cause of the problem.
Thursday, July 14 2005 Toronto DSL Logins
Bell has experienced a problem with a couple DSLAMs in the Toronto area. (Bas3Toronto1, Bas2Totonto2, and Bas1Hamilton14). Any custosmers that connect to us through these units will not be able to login. Bell has dispatched techs and is looking into the problem:

Update: 9am July 14
Bell says the problem should be fixed, but they also say they are still getting calls from many customers that can not login. :-) Suspect the issue is not fully resolved yet.

Tuesday, July 12 2005 Brief interruption in NBN Service
There was a brief (6:30pm) interrupiton in DSL service to DSL customers that connect with a username@nutnbut.net. A quick reboot of a router has cleared the issue.
Monday, February 14 2005 Brief interruption in NBN Service
There was a brief interrupiton in DSL service to DSL customers that connect with a username@nutnbut.net this morning. We noticed a problem with one of our routers at approx 8:45am. It required a reboot to clear the issue. Everything was back up and running fine at approx 9:05am.
Monday, February 07 2005 Bell Nexxia Maintenance

Title : Bell Nexxia Maintenance
Date : Feb 11, 2005 00:00:00
Affecting : ADSL 1Meg, 3 Meg, 4 Meg
Location : London
Bell Nexxia will be performing maintenance activities during the normal maintenance window for a DSL card replacement in the London area. Expected outage should not be more than 15 minutes.
  Tuesday, October 12 2004 Dial-up problem
We are currently experiencing a problem with our dial-up network. All hardware at our data-center has been checked and found to be working properly. We have opened a high-priority trouble ticket with the provider of our phone lines. They are looking into the problem and will get back to us asap.
Update: The cause of the dial-up outage is due to a fiber cut on one of 360Networks feeders to Odynet. They are working on repairing this cut. We still don't have an estimate from them as to when this will be restored.
Update: 360Networks was able to repair the cut fiber at approx 8:50. all dial connections seem to be working fine now.
Sunday, July 18 2004 Odynet Welcomes Mandy
Odynet would like to welcome Mandy to our customer support team. Many of you will remember working with Mandy when dealing with support issues with Nothing But Net.

Welcome aboard Mandy!
Thursday, July 15 2004 New Router Installed Again
We have received a new Processor board for the Cisco router that was causing the problems late last week. The router has undergone some testing and has now been placed live on the network again. Things look to be running very smooth again.
Friday, July 09 2004 New Router
Well as you may have guessed, we are experiencing problems with the new Cisco Router. It was installed last evening and everything seemed to be going fine. However just before noon today it rebooted (crashed) all on its own. Then over the next several hours we tried a different IOS on the box, and still no joy. Didn't look stable. We eventually migrated back to the previous router. Which will cause slowness, but will be much more stable than the new one. We will leave things like this for the weekend, and try to come up with a resolution to the new router that we can implement Monday evening. Again Sorry for the disruption, this is not typical of what customers are used to seeing with Odynet service. Again as always we'd prefer to keep you updated, best as possible.
Friday, July 09 2004 Router Upgrade
With the integration of the Nothing But Net systems into the Odynet data-center, we have experienced a huge increase in traffic through one of our core routers. This increased caused the CPU load on that router to increase to the point where it could not keep up the the traffic at peek times. We have just purchased and installed an upgraded model (Cisco 7206VXR, $10,000) for this particular job. This 7206VXR added to an existing 7206VXR, a couple of Cisco 7513's, and a Cisco 5500 switch should round out a nice network to prevent any slowness in the future. Sorry for any slowness, but as always, we've taken steps to correct the situation asap.
Saturday, July 03 2004 Odynet acquires Nothing But Net
It gives me great pleasure to share an important and exciting announcement with you. As of June 29th 2004, Odynet has acquired another ISP called Nothing But Net.

Nothing But Net started offering High Speed services through Odynet, and as Nothing But Net grew they implemented a DSL solution of their own. The time has come to join forces to offer improved network stability for Nothing But Net Customers and allow for even more growth.

Nothing But Net customers can also look forward to free virus scanning, improved spam rejection and overall increased network stability, and of course, Odynet's knowledgeable, friendly customer service representatives.

No changes will be necessary on customer systems.

We ask that you please bear with us over the next couple of days as we migrate the Nothing But Net network into the Odynet network.

Welcome to Odynet

Sunday, April 04 2004 Linksys Connections
  Linksys Connect Issue:
Customers in and around the London area that have been having trouble connecting to Odynet in the last couple of days should be able to connect just fine now.
The problem was created when Bell upgraded their DSLAMs in the London central office from SMS units to BAS units. It would appear that although newer technology, the BAS units actually take a couple ms longer to authenticate a PPP session. Adjustments to the PPP parameters on one of Odynets routers were necessary to accomodate the new bell hardware.
We realize this has caused frustration for some customers, but I think everybody agrees, system upgrades are typically a good thing. Bell has spent the money, and we all reap the rewards with fast dsl connections into Odynet.
Thanks to everyone for being so patient while we worked through these issues.
Friday, April 02 2004 DSL Disconnects, Bell issue
Bell has made some changes to their cisco switch in the London office. (Basically lessened the load on one particular box) This seems to have helped a bit with the disconnect issue. But everybody that has been looking at the problem agrees, this is not a permanent fix.

The focus of the investigation is now looking at why this has started all of a sudden. Its looking like it may be related to bell changing some of the DSLAMs around in London last weekend. The change has effected DSL users authentication process, which in turn is snowballing into affecting the cisco switch that everyone has been looking at for the last 2 days.

Odynet and Bell are currently discussing what steps to take next.

Observation: It seems that most people can connect just fine and once connected, seem to be staying connected just fine. Customers using routers (mainly Linksys), are having difficulity connecting. Nothing wrong with the router or settings, so we are asking that if you have a Linksys having problems getting logged on, just keep trying. After a few attempts it will connect, and should stay connected.

And as a general rule, we suggest you don't set any idle timer on the router, and make sure you have "keep alive" selected.
Thursday, April 01 2004 DSL connections disconnecting
  Thurs, April 1, 2004 4:30am
Bell is still trying to determine the problem with the fibre connection to our office. This is still causing dropped DSL conections.
Thurs, April 1, 2004 7:30
It's looking more and more like its not the actual fibre connection, but maybe a piece of defective equip in the Bell office here in London (ATM card in a Cisco Catalyst switch.)
Thurs, April 1, 2004 11:00am
Bell is preparing to swap out the suspected defective ATM card.
Thurs, April 1, 2004 6:00pm
Bell eventually tried swapping out the suspect bad ATM card. This appears to have not corrected the problem. They are still investigating.
Wednesday, March 31 2004 DSL connections dropping
Things have been stable for so long, something was bound to happen.
Today starting around 1pm we started experiencing a problem with one of our fiber connections to Bell. This connection brings DSL connection data into Odynet before we route that traffic out to the net. Well something is happening with that connection that is causing DSL customers to get disconnected. Bell dispatched a tech late this afternoon, replaced some of their hardware at our office, and we thought the problem was fixed. However as of 7:30pm we are still noticing connections dropping. We have contacted bell again, and will continue to work with them throught the night, to help them correct thier fiber ckt to us.
Sunday, March 07 2004 Another server upgrade
Odynet has just completed replacing another core server. Again the older Sun Enterprise server that was doing the job, was working just fine, but as with the web server, we want to make sure response time is as quick as possible.
This time customers will see a speed increase in the following areas...
-> Checking / Reading E-mail
-> Checking for valid DSL numbers
-> Ody web site in general
-> Quicker authentication when logging on to dsl service

Friday, March 05 2004 DSLAM problems in Strathroy
Bell having problems with the DSL DSLAM in Strathroy
They have dispatched a tech and hope to have the problem corrected asap.
  Monday, March 01 2004 Virus / Worms
Well the latest batch of virus/worms has been hitting people all over the world. This week has seen several virus sent to Odynet customers claiming to be from either staff@ody.ca or administrator@ody.ca. (or similar). These viruses contain a virus in a password protected file. The E-mail gives you the password to allow you to extract the zip.
DO NOT DO THIS ! !
These e-mails are not from Odynet.
The Virus Scanner Odynet uses to scan your e-mails is good, but nothing can be expected to be 100% effective. In this case, the virus scanner can not determine if these are viruses because the zip files are password protected.
As always, be very very carfull when dealing with any sort of attachement ! ! !
Monday, March 01 2004 DSL Speed Increase
Odynet and Bell Canada have been working hard to roll out a speed increase for DSL customers. Some customers have already been done, and we are working on getting the balance completed before the end of March.
An increase in speed is only possible for customers that live close enough to a Bell Centeral Office to support the higher speed. There is a possibility that once the change is made in the Bell office that your DSL modem may not hold a solid Sync. If this happens please contact us asap, so that we may work with bell to correct the problem.
Sunday, Feb 01 2004 Virtual Web Server Upgrade
Odynet has just completed upgrading / replacing our virtual web server. The Sun Ultra Enterprise server that was doing the job before was still working well, but we always want to have the lat est / greatest / fastest service possible.
Sunday, Nov 30 2003 Proxy Server Upgrade
Odynet has just completed completly replacing our Proxy Server setup.
The old setup was a single cpu system. The new configuration consists of 2 Dual CPU systems with multiple Ultra SCSI hard drivers. Couple Gig of ram each, and dual Gig-Ethernet ports.
Lost of horsepower for today and lots of room for growth in the future.
Sunday, November 16 2003 DSL Outage
Power problems (again) have caused a disruption in service.
The main London Hydro feed into the building Odynet is located in "burnt" up Sunday afternoon at about 3pm. London Hydro is working on the problem. All of Odynets systems are fed by a UPS system that is connected to a very large diesel generator. However Bell has one little device (media converter) that is only fed by a UPS. Once this UPS shut down, Odynets DSL customers were unable to connect to our system. At about 6pm we were finally able to feed that bell device with generator power and all DSL customers were able to login.
We will be working on getting that Bell device permanently connect to backup/generator power.
Sorry for any trouble.
  Monday, September 29 2003 DSL Router Upgrade (Oct 1, 2003 1am)
Odynet will be upgrading one of our DSL routers in our London office Oct 1,2003 between 1am and 2am. The upgrade should only take a couple min. Any customers connected to our DSL service will be disconnected and not be able to re-connect untill the upgrade has been completed.

Possibly the largest power outage in the history of North America occurred Thursday afternoon, leaving the North Eastern part of the continent in darkness. All of our servers remained online, thanks to our connection to a diesel generator at our London office. Our upstream connection for our dial-up users was offline well into Friday. High speed services were unaffected.

We have been working with Bell to help them identify and correct the problem.
Wednesday, October 09, 2002 Emergency Power
Odynet has just installed a connection to a Very High Capacity Diesel generator. This connection coupled with our existing array of UPS systems will ensure an even more stable connection to the Internet though our systems. London Hydro has been fairly good at providing the downtown core with power but you never know when someone on a backhoe will dig up a cable. (like happened Nov 13,2001)

Some simple updates to the Odynet FTP site. Newer versions of popular programs.
Wednesday, September 17, 2002 DSL core router upgrade
Over the last couple weeks our core Cisco DSL router has been experiencing some problems keeping up with demand. We have just replaced that router with a significantly faster Cisco Router. This new box will allow Odynet to continue to grow and expand our services in Southwestern Ontario without any degradation in performance. CPU load on this new box is sitting at approx 8%. (much room for growth)
Wednesday, September 04, 2002 System Maintenance
Odynet will be upgrading software on some of its DSL core routers between Sept 5 and Sept 8, between the hours of midnight and 5am. Short periods of service interruption may occur. If you do get disconnected, the outages will only last a few min. Please just reconnect. Thanks for your patience.
Friday, August 9, 2002 Service outage
A power outage in the building we are in caused a brief outage Friday afternoon. UPS's kept everything running for most of the duration of the outage, but one rack of routers and switches went down about 5 min before the power was restored. This would have caused Dial and DSL customers to get disconnected. (Approx 4pm in the afternoon) At approx 4:05 power was restored, and customers could resume connections again.
